An Ex-Water Damage Expert Exposes The Hidden Truths That Cost You Big time... You Were Never Meant to Know This!

If you have water damaged carpets or suffered from a flood that has wet or even saturated your carpets there is a proper procedure that should be taking place and that procedure is…

  1. A moisture test to see the exact extent of the water. A proper moisture meter and or hydro sensor accurately pin points to the miler metre exactly where the water finishes. Just because the carpet does not look wet it doesn’t mean the underlay and sub-flooring is not wet.

  2. An extraction of as much water as possible with a suction machine…portable or truck mount. Truck mount is MUCH better because of the superior suction power.

  3. Application of an antimicrobial and deodoriser to help with the smell of moisture and mould. Usually described as the wet dog smell.

  4. Install air movers/dryers on and in most cased under the carpet. This will evaporate the moisture into the air.

  5. Install an industrial dehumidifier (or a few) to draw the moisture from the room so the moisture does not seep into the walls and furniture thus causing mold fungus and mildew.

  6. Check the carpet, underlay and sub-floor with moisture probe every 24 to 48 hours until 100% bone dry.

  7. Clean and treat the carpet with antimicrobial to help prevent the growth of mould, germs and bacteria.

  8. Sometimes they will throw in a carpet clean at the beginning or at the end too...just to help the carpets look good too.

A water damaged carpet is a job for a Certified and Licensed Professional who carries a certification in Water Damage and flood restoration. Also you should know that this is only the first step...they must know what they are doing so test them on the 7 points above as certifications are only one small step. If they hesitate on any of the points then I would think twice before you hire them.

Hiring the wrong trade’s person who says he or she can do the job but is un-certified and un-trained on how to do it right can result in a massive growth of mould and carpet rot which will destroy your expensive carpet. The mould that grows as a result of not having the job done properly can also make you very ill.

This process will be a bit more of an investment and this is where some people try to cut corners. I recommend letting the insurance company take care of the expense and you only worry about the small stuff. If you don’t it will cost you a LOT MORE in the not to distant future. It always does.

A Certified trained, committed, genuine, honest professional (like the ones I recommend) will be used to dealing with insurance companies and can advise you of the best way to go about making sure you get it all done the smoothest and quickest way possible.

I myself was a certified and licensed technician in water damaged carpets; flood damage and restoration of carpets, underlay and sub-flooring (cement slabs and timber flooring).

I've personally selected a number of certified water damage experts to recommend to you. I've carefully selected these professionals and I've tested them with many scenarios so I could be 100% sure before giving them one single water damaged carpet or flood damage carpet to restore.

Here are some professionals I recommend

After working in the water damage and cleaning industry for over sixteen years I’ve come to know and understand the process extremely well. That being said, the challenge I had when phoning and speaking to technicians was mainly that they were interested in getting the work rather than delivering quality. It was challenging sorting out the good from the bad however, eventually I came through with a short list of who I am believe are the top professionals in caring for water damaged carpets.

Hello, I needed a carpet cleaner and looked on your webpage and rang “Sydney Wide Steam Cleaning” one of your recommended carpet cleaners.   Tony the owner/operator has just finished cleaning my carpets and I am delighted.  He was friendly, knowledgeable and professional.  He quoted me a price over the phone and did not charge a penny more.  He did an excellent job and I will definitely use his services again and pass on his name to friends and family.  I had a very bad experience with carpet cleaners in the United States and know now to use web sites like yours to get good advice. Thanks from a very satisfied customer.

Hi, I am Joseph of Quakers Hill. I thought this was a trick until I read the 6 points to ask a carpet cleaner before I hired one. Dear author of this cleaning consumer guide, My name is Jessie and I have been badly burnt by carpet cleaning companies in the past. They always give a quote and then charge me more when they come to my home. I decided to use one of the recommended carpet cleaners from your guide and I was pleasantly surprised. The gentleman was professional and did a wonderful job. Thank you very much.

To whom it may be of interest, My name is Ted Nickols and I used the questions this consumer guide suggests to hire a carpet cleaner here in Victoria. It worked although I did have to call several cleaners before one was professional enough to follow the rules. That carpet cleaner did a remarkable job for me and I am very pleased.

It's about time there was a guide like this. I have been a genuine and honest carpet cleaner for many years and I am often shot down in flames because I initially quote an honest price rather than a cheap and deceptive price over the phone. Thank you for putting such a guide together as it also aids us genuine and honest carpet cleaners.

Hi, Meredith from Brisbane. I used the suggested questions to ask the cleaning companies before I chose one of them. I was shocked at how many calls I had to make before I had a company on the phone who was delighted to answer my questions without making me feal like I was doing wrong. They were very helpful and I hired them. They did a wonderful job. I would really like to thank the person who put this carpet cleaning consumer guide together and also All Aces carpet cleaning for such an amazing job on my carpets.

At first I didn't believe it but after reading just a little on this website and watching the videos I could see that this web site was for the people and not to make money. Many thanks to the author. Michael form Sydney.

I used one of those letter box flyers and found them to be a total con. I think the carpet cleaning industry is full of liars. I however feel blessed to have come across this non profit guide. It helped me to finally invest in a good cleaner. I did pay more than some of the advertised prices but the result was totally worth it. Thank you, thank you...

WOW I love this carpet cleaning consumer guide. I was a carpet cleaner many years ago and when I searched for a carpet cleaner on Google I found this web site. How true. I even learnt a few things to ask when I phone around too. Not to bad at all. Robert Johnson.

We used the consumer guide information not just for hiring a carpet cleaner for our company, also for investing in a long term cleaning company to clean our office area every night. What a great idea this web site is.
