TRAINED IN WATER RESTORATION

If you have water damaged carpets or suffered from a flood that has wet or even saturated your carpets there is a proper procedure that should be taking place and that procedure is…

1.     A moisture test to see the exact extent of the water. A proper moisture meter and or hydro sensor accurately pin points to the miler metre exactly where the water finishes. Just because the carpet does not look wet it doesn’t mean the underlay and sub-flooring is not wet.

2.     An extraction of as much water as possible with a suction machine…portable or truck mount. Truck mount is MUCH better because of the superior suction power.

3.     Application of an antimicrobial and deodoriser to help with the smell of moisture and mould. Usually described as the wet dog smell.

4.     Install air movers/dryers on and in most cased under the carpet. This will evaporate the moisture into the air.

5.     Install an industrial dehumidifier (or a few) to draw the moisture from the room so the moisture does not seep into the walls and furniture thus causing mold fungus and mildew.

6.    Check the carpet, underlay and sub-floor with moisture probe every 24 to 48 hours until 100% bone dry.

7.    Clean and treat the carpet with antimicrobial to help prevent the growth of mould, germs and bacteria.

8.    Sometimes they will throw in a carpet clean at the beginning or at the end too...just to help the carpets look good too.

A water damaged carpet is a job for a Certified and Licensed Professional who carries a certification in Water Damage and flood restoration. Also you should know that this is only the first step...they must know what they are doing so test them on the 7 points above as certifications are only one small step. If they hesitate on any of the points then I would think twice before you hire them.

Hiring the wrong trade’s person who says he or she can do the job but is un-certified and un-trained on how to do it right can result in a massive growth of mould and carpet rot which will destroy your expensive carpet. The mould that grows as a result of not having the job done properly can also make you very ill.

This process will be a bit more of an investment and this is where some people try to cut corners. I recommend letting the insurance company take care of the expense and you only worry about the small stuff. If you don’t it will cost you a LOT MORE in the not to distant future. It always does.

A Certified trained, committed, genuine, honest professional   (like the ones I recommend) will be used to dealing with insurance companies and can advise you of the best way to go about making sure you get it all done the smoothest and quickest way possible.

I myself was a certified and licensed technician in water damaged carpets; flood damage and restoration of carpets, underlay and sub-flooring (cement slabs and timber flooring).

I've personally selected a number of certified water damage experts to recommend to you. I've carefully selected these professionals and I've tested them with many sinarois so I could be 100% sure before giving them one single water damaged carpet or flood damage carpet to restore.

After working in the water damage and cleaning industry for over sixteen years I’ve come to know and understand the process extremely well. That being said, the challenge I had when phoning and speaking to technicians was mainly that they were interested in getting the work rather than delivering quality. It was challenging sorting out the good from the bad however, eventually I came through with a short list of who I am believe are the top professionals in caring for water damaged carpets.
